Florence is a remarkably compact and walkable city where everything worth visiting is within easy reach. This means that regardless of which hostel you choose in Florence, you’ll be able to explore the entire city on foot. Most of the best hostels are clustered together anyway, so your location matters less than the quality of the hostel itself.
With hundreds of hostels to choose from, finding the right one can be overwhelming. To help you decide, I’ve compiled my personal favorites based on over fifteen years of visits and travels through the city. Here are top four recommendations.
1. OSTELLO BELLO FIRENZE

$35-80 per night
Ostello Bello Firenze is centrally located and offers an excellent social atmosphere. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and the hostel features a beautiful common area, a full kitchen, a social lounge, and a rooftop terrace with wonderful views. Every guest receives a complimentary welcome drink. The rooms are basic, featuring metal-frame bunks without privacy curtains, but they all include private bathrooms, which is a significant advantage. While breakfast isn’t included, the social scene here makes it easy to meet fellow travelers.
2. YELLOWSQUARE FLORENCE

$35-75 per night
Located about twelve minutes from the main train station, YellowSquare is a recently renovated hostel that offers an impressive range of activities including cooking classes, wine tasting, and pasta-making experiences. During summer months, guests can enjoy a rooftop swimming pool. The hostel also features a beautiful courtyard, a vibrant social lounge, a self-service restaurant, and a kitchen. Beds come with reading lights, electrical outlets, and lockers, though you’ll need to bring your own padlock. The mattresses are comfortable with good water pressure in the showers. This hostel is ideal if you’re looking for a lively social atmosphere and want to meet many other travelers.
3. HOSTEL ARCHI ROSSI

$30-65 per night
This was my very first hostel in Florence back in 2006, and it remains excellent today. While the massive free breakfast that once defined this place is gone, Archi Rossi maintains its appeal. The beds are simple with no privacy curtains, but the facilities are outstanding, including a stunning courtyard, a large kitchen, and extensive art and murals throughout. The staff is genuinely friendly, the location near the train station is convenient, and it remains one of the most affordable hostels in the city. This is another great choice for socializing and meeting travelers.
4. PLUS FLORENCE

$25-60 per night
PLUS Florence is an upscale hostel that’s only a ten-minute walk from the main train station. It features both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a relaxing rooftop terrace, and a more refined atmosphere than the high-energy alternatives. The beds are basic metal bunks without curtains, but the mattresses are thicker and more comfortable than at budget hostels, and each bed has individual reading lights and electrical outlets. All rooms include lockers. A filling all-you-can-eat breakfast is available daily for just 9 EUR, and the hostel offers female-only dorms for women who prefer extra privacy. This option is perfect if you want a slightly more upscale experience without breaking the bank.
Conclusion
These four hostels represent the best options in Florence. Each offers quality accommodations, central locations, friendly staff, and a welcoming environment for meeting other travelers. Whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly social scene or a more comfortable experience, you’ll find what you need among these choices. Book one and enjoy your time in this beautiful city!
